HInts for Instructors
Roll call
The students are requested to register for each course at the central
administration, via http://www.mastermath.nl/registration.
During the 4th week of the course there is a roll call: the central
administration sends a list of the students that have registered for the course.
The instructor is requested to circulate the list for additions and corrections.
The students are advised to verify that his/her name is on the list. The
list will be used for registration of the final grades of the course.
Exams and grades
You are advised to carefully read the document Rules and Guidelines for the Examinations of Mastermath in the
folder Courses & Exams.
The following general stipulations regarding the
examination must be communicated to the
students:
- The student must take the exam of a course in the period immediately
following the class meetings at the location where the course was
given.
- The instructor may give partial credits for homework or replace part of
the examination by a take-home exam. The way in which the exam will be
organized, must be explained in the course description well in advance of the
start of the course.
- In case the organization of the exam is not clear before the start of the
course, please make explicit appointments about it in the first lecture.
Without mutual agreement between students and instructor the appointments
concerning the organization of the examination cannot be changed.
- The dates and venues of the final exam are set by the central
administration.
- The grades of the exams will be communicated to the student by the
instructor. The results are filed at the central administration.
- The central administration will communicate the grades to the respective
local administrations.
Please note the following
- If a student does not pass the examination, he/she must make an
appointment with the instructor for a repeat. The instructor reports the date
of the appointment to the managing director and the central administration.
- In order to handle complaints by the students in an adequate way, the
instructors are advised to keep the exams on file for at least one year.
The instructors are expected to send complete grading lists to the central
administration, containing the following: name, initials, university, student
number, grade.
- The communicated grades are integers, from 1 to 10.
- For a timely distribution of the grades to the respective universities the
grades must be filed by the instructor not later than March 1 for the Fall
Semester and August 1 for the Spring Semester.
Organization
- Well before the start of the course, the instructor is requested to
communicate specific wishes regarding venues and tools to the central
administration.
- Two months before the course begins instructors are requested to provide
the central administration with information concerning the course. That
includes: aim, description, organization, examination, literature (what
literature is mandatory to purchase), prerequisites.
Special attention must be given to two points:
1, a proper description of the prerequisites is required. The
list of prerequisites, preferably a list of key words, should be sufficiently
specific in order to enable the student to make the right decision whether or
not to take the course. The instructor must not spend time in class
at recalling the prerequisites.
2, indicate how the examination is arranged. Please be clear about
grading, deadlines (if there is homework to be handed in), the
effect of homework on the grading); the arrangements for the examination can
not be changed during the course.
- During the course, instructors are requested to report changes in
organization to the central administration. (e.g. change of instructor or
fall-out / extra lessons)
- The instructor is requested to hand out evaluation forms at the time of
the examination or at the last lecture.
- The instructor is invited to return the, filled-out, evaluation forms to
the central administration within one week after the exam.
- Instructors are expected to know what to do in case of an emergency with
regards to the venue.
- In the final lecture, discuss with the student further related courses
offered in The Netherlands that are recommended to the interested
student.
Travel costs
The instructor must file a request for a refund of the travel cost at the
administration of his/her own university only.
Request for a refund of travel costs of students are to be filed with the
administration of Mastermath; the requests can be honored only of students that
are registered at Mastermath. |
